Post-grad

We’re young and educated, and some of us are still in school, but we always keep our eyes on the prize: a future job. So, naturally, when some of us decide to pursue a master’s or PhD, we face the inevitable question: Do employers look for candidates who have attended a different post-secondary institute for their post-grad?

It’s been two, three, or five years since you’ve finished school, and you’ve landed that position you have been yearning for. You’ve become aware that the next steps in the job may require you to have a designation or certification to move up in the company. It’s time to go back to school, to go even further in your education.

Most of us have either left a company or have been let go before, and we often don’t know if we should ever talk to our former managers again. I say we should. We should stay in touch, maintain a relationship and always follow up.

The moment you graduate (even a little before, actually), your name pops up on the alumni list of your university or college. But your affiliation with the school can get you more than a degree or diploma — they come along with numerous and exciting perks that benefit both your social life and your career.

I can’t hang out with all my fellow-graduated friends in the same way that I used to because my internal clock has been reprogrammed to that of a working person. I must cut out early to get to bed at a sensible hour.

University students reported that their level of happiness declined once they finished university. Those who undertook a vocational apprenticeship or traineeship were happy during training with happiness continuing during the school-to-work transition.
