Lauren chats with freelance social media strategist Sophie Bifield about the best and worst parts of freelancing in a new industry like social media.

Kate did an internship with MTV while she was in school and now works at MTV headquarters in Toronto. Lauren asks her how she made her way up from intern to employee.

It’s easy to forget the world around you when the paper piles high. And it’s also easy to forget that the restaurants, bars, galleries, shops and walking trails which are the mainstays of your non-academic moments are potential treasures to people less familiar with your cityscape.

With nothing else on the employment horizon, I thought about what to do come September. I decided to head home to Vancouver for a while, and then come back to Toronto eventually to look for work.

Now, only two weeks until classes, I am still anxious and scared. I have no idea how I am going to do and no idea on how I am going to do it. Everything about doing a master’s seems to grown up for me. I am supposed to be seen as an emerging leader in my academic field.
