Canada’s technology sector continues to thrive. The Information and Communication Technology Council (ICTC) predicts that 17, 700 people will be employed annually from 2011-2016, bringing in 106,000 more workers.
The IT industry reports that 70% of employers credit growing business activity by the end of 2013, with 35% of those employers adding full time roles. Business has become a crucial skill for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) employees.
Jayson Hilchie, President & CEO of the Entertainment Software Association of Canada (ESAC) reveals that the video game industry employs 16, 500 men and women, with a 5% growth from last year. It contributed to $2.3 billion by the end of 2012.
On the other hand, technical support analysts (up 19,000), multimedia designers / graphic illustrators (up 17,000), and electronics engineers (up 8,000) experienced a growth in jobs. It’s also a time where freelance and contractors are doing well in the industry.
Diversity emerges more than ever this year, with a total of 200,000 women working in the industry, and immigrant employment takes up 37% of the industry.
