What would you do with an amazing summer job, a free iPad Mini and the chance to win $5,000?
You could find out if you enter and win the Green Dream Internship contest, which will award eight deserving students four-month paid summer internships at leading forest products companies, plus some awesome new tech and maybe even some cold hard cash!
The internships, offered by a number of different leading companies in the forest products industry, aren’t just for “foresters” (although some are) – the roles range from engineering to communications, quality control to human resources and more!
Unlike some summer internships where you’ll be stuck fetching coffee and making photocopies, each of the internships offered by The Greenest Workforce – a first-of-its-kind recruitment program for the forest products industry aimed at renewing the industry’s workforce with at least 60,000 new recruits – will provide on-the-job training and skills development, and real-world experience in a role that is suited to your interests and education.
“We’re very much focused on growth, so we offer jobs where candidates can grow,” says Mélissa Picard, HR Initiatives Advisor at Resolute Forest Products, which is offering a Communications Internship. “It’s a challenging environment where students can learn, grow and contribute.”
Who knows – if you win, you may be able to use the internship to jump-start a successful career in the forest products industry!
These internships are located across Canada and will begin in May 2013, lasting for four or eight months, depending on the internship, with wages ranging from $11 to $24 an hour.
In the meantime, however, you’ll have the opportunity to participate in a very unique application and interview process:
The Green Dream Internship contest requires you to submit a video explaining why you would be the perfect candidate for the internship of your choice. Then, you have to get the most possible votes for your video between now and March 31, 2013. We’re talking Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest…whatever it takes!
At the end of the voting period, the top five most popular videos for each of the internship positions will be selected for a job interview.
If you’re hired, you’ll have a one in eight chance at winning that $5,000 prize, plus you’ll gain some serious recognition within the forest products industry because you’ll be asked to write bi-weekly blogs for The Greenest Workforce website about your experience during your internship.
“We want to make sure the forest industry is one that students will consider as a place in which they may want to start their careers,” says Elaine Jenson, Vice President of Human Resources at West Fraser Timber, which is offering a Quality Control Assistant internship.
