November 29th was an egg-citing day at TalentEgg: it was our second Office Hours event with Rexall, a fast-growing Canadian drugstore chain. Office Hours is an hour-long live chat with representatives from top employers for TalentEgg members.
Rexall’s Director of Talent Acquisition returned to answer your questions about the company’s Pharmacy, Retail Management and Corporate career opportunities and offer advice about standing out to Rexall recruiters.
If you missed the live event, you can read the complete transcript below:
TalentEgg Hayley:
Welcome to Office Hours, TalentEgg-ers! My name is Hayley and I’ll be moderating today’s chat.
Our eggs-pert guest today is the Director of Talent Acquisition at Rexall!
Over the next hour, you can send in your questions about career opportunities at Rexall, learn how to stand out to Rexall’s recruiters, and get tips for successfully hatching your pharmacy or retail career. You can start submitting your questions now.
Comment From Louie
Does Rexall offer paid internships? How long are your internships? How can I make sure I get one?
Rexall:
What type of internship are you looking for, Louie?
Comment From Louie
I am a Pharmacy student, so anything related to that.
Rexall:
Right now, co-op opportunities are managed through the local store management team. If you have a particular store in mind, you can reach out to a Pharmacy Manager at that respective store. Unfortunately, we do not have a formal program yet!
TalentEgg Hayley:
Thanks! Let’s take a look at a question that was submitted in advance:
Dana, a Business Management student at Conestoga College, asks: What is the wait time between first applying for a job and Rexall selecting a candidate? What types of roles does Rexall offer for candidates with a post-graduate diploma in Business Management?
Rexall:
All of our roles are posted online, including entry level, and we try to contact applicants within 5 business days. Once interviewed, we try to make the process as quick as possible. In terms of roles, we have roles such as Business Analyst.
Comment From Oyin
Can I work as a Pharmacy Technician without being certified?
Rexall:
You can work as a Pharmacy Assistant. You would require certification to be a Pharmacy Technician. We often look for Assistants, so keep checking online!
Comment From Oyin
Thank you, I will!
Comment From Zohaib
Thanks for taking the time to answer our questions today! My question is: what are the best avenues to apply for employment at Rexall?
Rexall:
We do post all of our roles online. However, we encourage candidates to reach out to any of our recruiters directly via LinkedIn if they want to hear more about a role or gather additional information.
TalentEgg Hayley:
Here’s another question that was submitted in advance:
Philip, a Business Administration student at York University, asks: How will my skills in business administration benefit Rexall? Where would someone with my background fit in?
Rexall:
Business Administration has given you a number of transferable skills that can be used in multiple departments, including Operations, Real Estate, Finance, HR and Merchandising.
Comment From Stephanie
I’m still in school. How can I make sure I stand out to recruiters at Rexall now, before I’ve graduated?
Rexall:
Come in and talk to us! If you want to have a conversation with a recruiter at Rexall, we are happy to have those and help support you in your career. This will also give you the opportunity to develop your network and allow us to develop ours as well.
Comment From Harpreet
Are there a lot of opportunities for advancement at Rexall? How can I make sure I advance?
Rexall:
We reward employees based on performance. We have had several people advance within the organization in a short period of time and there are others who have gone back to school to become Pharmacists! It really depends on you.
Comment From Emily
How do you choose which applicants to interview for pharmacy roles? What do you look for on a cover letter or resume?
Rexall:
We look for individuals who are highly motivated and dedicated to patient care, have a strong knowledge in their profession, and are interested in working in a fast-paced, ever-changing, community care environment. We look for examples of thinking outside the box, enthusiasm and, most importantly, leadership.
TalentEgg Hayley:
I think now’s a good time to take our poll. Here we go!
What is the main reason you’re attending Office Hours with Rexall today?
- I want to work for Rexall ( 64% )
- I am interested in careers in this industry ( 18% )
- I am looking for application tips/hints ( 9% )
- I am exploring career options in general ( 9% )
TalentEgg Hayley:
While people are voting, let’s hear from another student who submitted their question in advance:
Gaurav Bansal, an Accounting and Finance student at Seneca College, asks: Does Rexall offer accounting designation programs for graduates?
Rexall:
As far as finance goes, we do offer co-op programs to support students through graduation. We offer tuition support on a case-by-case basis, based on performance.
Comment From Hitesh
I am a Pharmacist from India, studying Business at Lambton College. Can I find a job at Rexall with my business and pharmacy background?
Rexall:
It depends on the role that you are looking for. As a Pharmacist, you would have to be licensed in the province that you practice. There are several positions that a Pharmacy/Business background would support.
Comment From Hitesh
Ok, thank you!
TalentEgg Hayley:
Here’s another previously submitted question:
Kuckie, an International Business student at Sheridan College, asks: What is the best entry level position to apply to at Rexall for someone with my background (International Business)?
Rexall:
I wouldn’t limit applications to particular roles. In addition to business knowledge, we also look for individuals who can contribute to our culture of collaboration, innovation and leadership, so don’t limit yourself.
Comment From Mike
What kind of grades are you looking for in terms of pharmacy interns or graduate roles?
Rexall:
Grades are important, but what is more important to us is your enthusiasm and dedication to the practice of Pharmacy, your ability to be a team player, and your ability to go above and beyond to provide the best patient care.
TalentEgg Hayley:
That’s all the time we have for questions today. Thanks for participating in Office Hours and a big thank-you to Rexall’s Director of Talent Acquisition for taking the time to answer everyone’s questions!
