September is almost over – did you apply for your dream consulting job yet? If not, don’t worry. There are still a few days to get your application in.
But before you do, take a few minutes to read over these top tips from Accenture:
Final year students
Dust off your resumé. Many companies, including Accenture, have deadlines in September for new grad positions.
Order transcripts or determine how to download unofficial copies as most companies will want to review your grades in addition to your resumé and cover letter.
Prepare your two-minute commercial. We always recommend that students work on the intro they will use when meeting employers, prepare and practice. Focus on the key skills you have to offer to an employer. You’ll only get one chance to make a first impression so make it count.
Second and third year students
Attend information sessions…don’t wait until the year you graduate to start attending. At this point you still have time to make course changes, add skills, and gain specialized experience. If you attend information sessions now, you will have a better idea of what your ideal employers are looking for in candidates before it is too late.
Get involved and work on building the experience for your resume. Volunteer, take on leadership roles both during project work in your classes and with campus clubs, and select co-op and internship roles based on the experience they will provide you.
First year students
Once you’ve figured out where all your classes are, bought your textbooks and tried out the cafeteria food, make Career Services your next stop! Don’t wait until you are weeks away from graduating to get the assistance you need. There is a wealth of knowledge in the Career Services offices on campus. They all offer a wide range of programs and services that can assist you over the next few years.
Resumé writing, mock interviews, dress for success sessions… don’t wait… get to know all the options and resources that are available to you.
